A Win’s a Win…

by Carl - posted Saturday, January 26th, 2008

…even when it comes against the lowly Sixers. Remember that awful stretch in December when the Knicks lost back-to-back games against Philly? Tonight’s 89-81 win helps put those debacles in the rear-view mirror. Z-Bo had a strong night with 16 points and 15 boards.

Interesting note: with Fred Jones out with the flu, Mardy Collins got the start. Also, Crawford played another 44 minutes tonight. Isiah needs to be careful about over-extending him.

Next up: a trip to Golden State (no, there is no city named Golden State, they’re actually going to Oakland.) You’ll hear from Jack and I after that one.

We’re Going to the Garden!

by Jack - posted Sunday, January 20th, 2008

We are finally putting our money where our mouth is… well sort of. The dynamic duo is taking a ride on the subway and going to the Knicks vs. Celtics game at Madison Square Garden on Monday. I’ll get my first in-person look at the team that may force me to wear a chicken suit at the end of the season. Grrrrrr….

We’ll also be interviewing fans outside of the Garden before and after the game, so if you see us, be sure to say hello! We will air some of the interviews on our next episode of Knickscast. Game time is scheduled for 1:00pm.

Episode #7 Notes

by Jack - posted Friday, January 18th, 2008

On today’s episode of Knickscast, Jack welcomes Carl back after his mid-winter recess in Cancun, Mexico. The boys get right down to business bringing in Mike Dougherty, Knicks beat writer for the Journal News. They chat about the Knicks latest winning streak, Stephon’s season-ending surgery, and of course, how can you talk about the Knicks without mentioning Isiah Thomas!

Mike Dougherty keeps a blog where you can read all of his articles about the New York Knicks at www.lohud.com.

The chicken suit bet gets ugly as Celticscast co-host Chris Villani tells Jack that he would like to raise the stakes.

Isiah Ejected! Crowd Cheers….

by Jack - posted Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Normally when a head coach is ejected from a game, you might hear a mix of boos and cheers. The cheers are probably because the coach was fired up and sticking up for his team. But when it comes to Isiah Thomas and the Knicks, the cheers are more like a sigh of relief and happiness that Isiah is gone! (At least for one night). Isiah was ejected from last night’s game against Houston. Thomas complained that there were numerous three-second violations by Yao Ming. In doing so, he rushed onto the court to get the officials attention, and was immediately ejected. This was followed by thunderous cheers from the Garden faithful - happy to see Isiah leave, even if it was just for a few quarters.

Do Knicks fans really care? Jack doesn’t think so.

The Time Has Come! Jack Calls Up New York City Costume Shops to Find a Chicken Suit

Jack breaks down the very slim playoff hopes for the Knicks. Is it even possible?

Episode #5 Notes

by Knickscast - posted Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

On today’s episode of Knickscast…

Celticscast Co-Host Chris Villani Goes Face to Face with Jack Cognetta

After weeks of phone tag, trash talking, and being MIA, Chris Villani and Jack Cognetta finally went face to face on the air to talk about their friendly “chicken suit” bet. As it stands, the Knicks are 18 games behind the Celtics (5 more than the 13 Jack needs to win the bet). Being the opportunistic Boston fan that he is, Chris Villani left us a voicemail on the morning of January 2nd to talk some smack. It takes a big man to wait until his Celtics are in a comfortable lead to finally answer me back. Needless to say, it’s on! I’m ready and will be making the necessary preparations to find a chicken suit in case I need it. Chris, I suggest you do the same. This is New York City baby and New Yorkers and New York teams are the best at getting out of the roughest and toughest of situations. Like it or not, learn to love it, because New York has the toughest fans going today.

Jack and Carl’s New Year’s Resolutions for the Knicks

  • Find out what they have to say for Eddie Curry, Jamal Crawford, Isiah Thomas, and Jim Dolan.

Also…

  • What should the Knicks starting lineup really look like? Jack and Carl weigh-in.

Episode #4 Notes

by Knickscast - posted Monday, December 17th, 2007

On today’s episode of Knickscast…

Celticscast Accepts the Challenge!

It’s on! Chris Villani of Celticscast has accepted Jack’s “Chicken Suit” Challenge. There will be one winner… one chicken suit… who will it be? Right now the Knicks are 13.5 games behind the Celtics, so Villani has a slight advantage. The odds are certainly stacked up against Jack. Jack makes some pointed comments at Chris, including being insulted that Celticscast didn’t even bring up the challenge until 16 minutes and 10 seconds into their show. Jack is also irritated that Chris didn’t personally call him back, and has called out Chris to be a man and come on Knickscast to talk with Jack.

Knicks Fan Organizes “Fire Isiah” Protest Outside of MSG

Joe, a die-hard Knicks fan of more than 25 years joins us on the phone because he’s had enough with the Knicks. He’s organizing a protest across the street from MSG during the Knicks/Bulls game on 12/30, asking fans to boycott the game and join in on the protest. How many fans will show up? Will Jim Dolan listen? Jack and Carl weigh-in.

Knicks in the News

  • Spike Lee sighting! Spike Lee was interviewed by MSG during Saturday night’s game. He was working on a World War II movie in Italy but says he was following the Knicks every step of the way on his Blackberry. Do you think Spike would ever join the Knick’s protest on 12/30?
  • Quote of the week: David Stern on Jim Dolan - from the NY Daily News - A source at the NBA says… “Stern only tolerates Dolan,” a source said. “He doesn’t respect him. He sees him as a guy who doesn’t listen or care.”

Also

  • Knicks win! Finally… Zach Randolph & Eddy Curry work well together
  • Stephon returns Monday… will it help or hurt the Knicks?
