Knickscast Goes International

by Carl - posted Friday, February 1st, 2008

Knicks nation spreads wider than we thought!  Click on the listener map on the right side of the homepage and you’ll see what I mean.  We’ve got fans tuning in from New Jersey to Munich, from Down Under to London, and of course New Yorkers just a subway ride away.  You can register yourself on the map as well!
On the latest edition of Knickscast we give a shout-out to the folks overseas (drop us a line back: 347-410-9093 or hosts@knickscast.com) and we bring on Mike Dougherty of The Journal News to break down the Knicks’ West Coast conundrum.

Plus, we discuss Magic Johnson’s not-so-magical Knickerbocker prediction.  Download, listen, and enjoy.

A Win’s a Win…

by Carl - posted Saturday, January 26th, 2008

…even when it comes against the lowly Sixers. Remember that awful stretch in December when the Knicks lost back-to-back games against Philly? Tonight’s 89-81 win helps put those debacles in the rear-view mirror. Z-Bo had a strong night with 16 points and 15 boards.

Interesting note: with Fred Jones out with the flu, Mardy Collins got the start. Also, Crawford played another 44 minutes tonight. Isiah needs to be careful about over-extending him.

Next up: a trip to Golden State (no, there is no city named Golden State, they’re actually going to Oakland.) You’ll hear from Jack and I after that one.

We’re Going to the Garden!

by Jack - posted Sunday, January 20th, 2008

We are finally putting our money where our mouth is… well sort of. The dynamic duo is taking a ride on the subway and going to the Knicks vs. Celtics game at Madison Square Garden on Monday. I’ll get my first in-person look at the team that may force me to wear a chicken suit at the end of the season. Grrrrrr….

We’ll also be interviewing fans outside of the Garden before and after the game, so if you see us, be sure to say hello! We will air some of the interviews on our next episode of Knickscast. Game time is scheduled for 1:00pm.

Episode #7 Notes

by Jack - posted Friday, January 18th, 2008

On today’s episode of Knickscast, Jack welcomes Carl back after his mid-winter recess in Cancun, Mexico. The boys get right down to business bringing in Mike Dougherty, Knicks beat writer for the Journal News. They chat about the Knicks latest winning streak, Stephon’s season-ending surgery, and of course, how can you talk about the Knicks without mentioning Isiah Thomas!

Mike Dougherty keeps a blog where you can read all of his articles about the New York Knicks at www.lohud.com.

The chicken suit bet gets ugly as Celticscast co-host Chris Villani tells Jack that he would like to raise the stakes.

Isiah Ejected! Crowd Cheers….

by Jack - posted Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Normally when a head coach is ejected from a game, you might hear a mix of boos and cheers. The cheers are probably because the coach was fired up and sticking up for his team. But when it comes to Isiah Thomas and the Knicks, the cheers are more like a sigh of relief and happiness that Isiah is gone! (At least for one night). Isiah was ejected from last night’s game against Houston. Thomas complained that there were numerous three-second violations by Yao Ming. In doing so, he rushed onto the court to get the officials attention, and was immediately ejected. This was followed by thunderous cheers from the Garden faithful - happy to see Isiah leave, even if it was just for a few quarters.

The Chicken Suit Challenge - Jack Challenges Celticscast Host Chris Villani - Is He Ready?

by Jack - posted Friday, December 14th, 2007

Yes, this is a photo of a chicken suit.I’m sick and tired of hearing Boston fans root for their Red Sox, their Patriots, and now their Celtics. The Knicks might be terrible, but let’s give the fans something to cheer for. So in an effort to keep things interesting, and shut up the loud mouth Boston fans, I challenge Chris Villani, Celticscast host and former Syracuse University classmate of mine to a “Chicken Suit” bet. If the New York Knicks come within 13 games of the Celtics in the standings when the dust clears at the end of the year, Chris has to wear a chicken suit (see photo) outside of Boston Garden chanting for the Knicks and handing out New York Knicks paraphernalia. However, if the Knicks come more than 13 games behind the Celtics in the standings, then I will wear a chicken suit outside of the World’s Most Famous Arena - Madison Square Garden.

Don’t worry, Carl already has the phone book out and we plan on calling costume stores to make sure we can find a chicken suit. I realize that this isn’t really an even bet. The Celtics are 18-2, the Knicks are in the basement of the league, but you know what… why not do it? Let’s keep things interesting. It’s about time us Knicks fans stand up and fight. And if that means challenging the “Johnny Come Lately” Celtics, then let’s do it.

What’s interesting is, I made the challenge to Celticscast about two days ago when I called their listener line. I haven’t heard a word from them. Not an email, a phone call, nothing. Maybe they’re “chicken” - no pun intended… or maybe they don’t have the guts to face the best fans in the world - New York fans. So I’m waiting to hear their response. Until then, IU want YOU the fans to call them up and tell them you want them to be man enough, step up to the plate, and accept my challenge. The Celticscast phone # is 617-934-0628. Give them a call - let’s put the pressure on. It’s game time baby!

On our next show, Carl and I will be calling costume stores around NYC on the air - we are going to find a chicken suit, if it’s the last thing we do!

Call us up (347) 410-9093 if you have suggestions or email us at hosts@knickscast.com.
